- What is Aquaform?
Aquaform is a complete system solution to control the microbial load in process water loops. - What is the Active Ingredient?
The active ingredients are hydroxyl radicals (OH•). These are powerful oxidisers that disrupt the cell membranes of the microorganisms and inhibit enzymic activity. The oxidation mechanism is similar to that of chlorine, chlorine dioxide and ozone based systems, however Aquaform is more powerful than these, yet forms no harmful by-products and leaves no residuals after treatment. - What are the Environmental Impacts?
None, Aquaform breaks down to non-harmful, non-toxic water. There is no impact on downstream effluent treatment processes. The water has a pH of 7, neutral, with no COD or suspended solids from the Aquaform. There is no requirement for neutralization or advanced biological treatment, saving on treatment costs, power consumption and sludge generation. - What else is in Aquaform?
Nothing, The raw materials are formic acid and hydrogen peroxide in water solutions. These are food grade products, the performic acid formed breaks down in minutes to give only Water, Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. - How much do you use?
Very little. Naturally dose rates vary with conditions and applications, however typical rates used in full scale range between 2 and 15ppm of active ingredient. - Is Aquaform Safe?
Yes. The raw materials and the active ingredient break down very rapidly, performic acid is not detectable in the water within minutes of dosing. - Does it affect the product?
Aquaform has no odour and has no negative effects on the products being washed. - Are By-Products Formed?
No, HPLC analysis of water samples after dosing with Aquaform found no new compounds formed. - Measurement and Dose Control?
As part of the initial installation, an empirical assessment of the local water quality parameters and dose response to Aquaform is carried out. This generates an accurate dataset for the water conditions on each site and is then used to program a REDOX (ORP) control probe. The probe continuously monitors the water quality and controls the dosing equipment. Using REDOX in this manner enables the system to automatically compensate for seasonal changes in the quality and microbial load of the raw material. All of the Aquaform system is completely automatic, with no operator input during normal operation. - Quality Control and Auditing.
The dosing control system generates a visible display that can be recorded electronically or manually. Verification of the accuracy of the system can be carried out using a secondary (handheld) Redox sensor or through manual determination of the performic acid levels using on-site test kits. (Note, the decay rate of performic acid is very rapid, and as such samples should be analysed soon after taking.) - Maintenance Requirements.
Maintenance and servicing are similar to those you expect with all process equipment, regular visual inspections combined with verification and calibration of the instrumentation monthly.
